i’m certified!
Note: This is my supposedly post last October 30, 2009. But lot of things happened and I will definitely blog all things happened — the move and the accident.
I am still on a blast! Yesterday was something big for me. My world turned around and I felt ohso good! Past few weeks, I’d been on school working on my Nurse Assistant program. I go to school at night then focus on theories and clinical. I had a great time at school and been wanting to pursue to Bachelor in Nursing as a step up. But in order for me to go on, I still have to finish what I started and pass the State requirement written and skills exam to be able to be called Certified Nursing Assistant. Technically, I can’t use the term CNA if I don’t have the certificate. Hmm, I hope that make sense. I finished what I needed to be finish.
During the test we did the written exam and we performed a total of 4 skills including handwashing. The 3 skills that I picked are: Assisting patient to use bedpan, Transferring a patient from the bed to the chair and Partial bed bath in lower extremities (hips, legs and feet). Good Lord, the proctor made me and Adrianne (she’s one of my classmate) as partners to do all the skills. With all the 3 skills that I showed, Adrianne was my patient with the name Ms. Joy (in 2 skills) and Ms. Faith. While waiting for the result, I can’t help myself to think that maybe I failed the skills. I know that my written test was ok and I already got the result on it prior to the skills exam. Waiting for nearly 2 hours kills me due to unstoppable nervousness. I even told Adrianne that once I got a failed remark, I’ll schedule another skill exam and practice in preparation to the 2nd skill exam. Yes, I made a Plan B in case of worst thing scenario. I even told Jen and Adrianne to help me in case I need to review again. I need someone to really push me.
Believe it or not, I passed the exam. Got good remarks from the proctor. And waiting for the results almost kills me (they say the results right there and then). I was thrilled when they handed me the temporary certificate. They’ll mail my ID card and certificate 14days after the exam. Jen also passed but unfortunately, Adrianne didn’t made it because of one skill.
Jen treat us lunch after the exam. We went to Olive Garden. While ordering, I also thought of saying the good news to Mom and Toper. But since I know Mom will surely not pick up the phone because she’s busy, I text Toper instead. He was thrilled and very proud of me.
Here I am again saying that I know that in the field of Nursing, Nurse Assistant is the lowest and most unnoticeable person in the field. But who cares, NAs does the dirty work but makes the patient more comfortable. NAs do most actions. Soon, I’ll be out in the field. I’m excited and can’t wait to spread the love.
I still have pending plans with regards to my new found career. And only God knows what will happen in the next 10years of my life.
